A half-cut of a full leather hide, typically split vertically down the spine—from the neck to the rear. It’s one of the most common leather cuts available. Sides are very versatile to work with due to their large size, typically ranging from 20 to 28 square feet, depending on the type of animal.

This makes them suitable for a wide range of projects—from small accessories to larger pieces—and especially convenient for strap cutting.

The central area of the side—particularly near the butt—is usually the cleanest. In contrast, the belly areas tend to have more natural marks, which is typical of natural leather.
