Craft Sha Wooden Mallet

This made in Japan, extra-large wooden mallet is perfect for striking leathercraft tools such as punches, chisels, hardware setters, stamps, and more without damaging them. The head has a barrel shape, wider in the middle and tapering toward each end. The wood head absorbs impact, so it drives tools cleanly without denting or marring them the way a metal hammer can. It's also used to press and settle glued seams and stitch lines.

Its extra-large size also makes it well suited to heavier striking tasks.

The head is friction-fit onto the handle rather than glued. Check that it's snug before each use, and if it loosens over time from natural wood movement, tap the handle end to reseat it.
