OKA Factory Japanese Skiving Knife
This skiving knife is fully handmade in Japan by using the same traditional process as ancient Japanese swordsmiths.
The blade is forged from Yasugi specialty steel (Blue Steel) using the same method as Japanese katana swords. It combines a hard, high-carbon Yasugi steel core for exceptional sharpness with a softer steel support layer that adds flexibility and prevents brittleness. This traditional forging technique creates a blade that delivers outstanding cutting performance while maintaining durability and strength.
Each blade is sharpened by hand in three stages, using three different sharpening stones, rough, medium, and fine, to achieve a precise and polished edge
The blades are made from tempered, tool-grade steel, with each one individually sharpened and tested to ensure the necessary sharpness. Each skiver also has its size engraved on the blade for easy identification.
Additionally, the blade is made symmetrical, allowing even pressure during sharpening from both sides, making it easier to maintain a consistent, straight edge over time.
The handle is crafted from Japanese Whitebark Magnolia (Magnolia Obovata), the same wood traditionally used for Japanese sword sheaths and knife handles. Known for its high oil content and water resistance, it helps protect the blade from rust and offers a comfortable, reliable grip.
